Journaling and Mood Tracking Companion for Mental Wellness

Added Jun 2025 3 design docs

Demand for mental health support far outstrips the supply of clinicians, leaving people to manage anxiety, low mood, and stress alone between appointments, or without care at all. Thoughtful software cannot replace therapy, but it can make daily self-care structured, private, and genuinely supportive for the people social services often cannot reach. The intern builds a wellness companion in Python and React where generative AI personalizes the experience: journaling prompts that respond to what the user actually wrote, mood tracking with gentle pattern reflections, and coping strategies matched to the moment. MongoDB stores entries and mood histories under strict privacy controls, progress analytics visualize trends over weeks and months, and users can export wellness reports to share with a healthcare provider if they choose to. The intern implements safety boundaries for the AI as a first-class feature: a supportive tone, no diagnosis, and clear signposting to crisis resources when warranted. The project demonstrates responsible AI product design in a sensitive domain, covering privacy-first data architecture, empathetic prompt engineering with guardrails, and analytics that inform users without alarming them.
