Seeing a clinician for an early assessment is not always practical, so a lightweight screening tool that works from symptom descriptions and basic health data can make a real difference in prompting timely care. The intern builds a complete screening application around this need. A questionnaire-style interface built with streamlit collects symptoms such as burning sensation, urinary frequency, and fever alongside simple health indicators, and a machine-learning classifier written in python estimates the likelihood of a UTI from those inputs. A fastapi backend exposes the trained model as an inference service, validates incoming data, and keeps the interface cleanly separated from the prediction logic. The app also surfaces educational content on symptoms, prevention, and red flags that warrant an urgent doctor visit. Completing the project takes the intern through the full arc of applied machine learning in healthcare: preparing training data, evaluating a classifier honestly, serving it behind an API, and presenting predictions responsibly as guidance rather than diagnosis.

In this project the intern builds exactly that translator. Users supply anonymized banking transactions, and a python program parses each entry, cleans the fields, and passes them through a generation pipeline that uses openai models to produce a short, plain-language explanation of what the transaction likely represents. The workflow is structured with langgraph, which defines the steps from ingestion to explanation, while an agentic-ai coordination layer decides how each record moves through parsing, generation, and output formatting. The finished tool reads a list of transactions and returns an annotated version anyone can understand. Along the way the intern practices careful data handling, prompt design for financial text, and workflow automation, and finishes with a working example of generative AI applied to a genuinely common retail banking pain point.

The intern builds a summarization pipeline in python that accepts pasted or uploaded banking news headlines and short articles, groups related items, and generates an easy-to-understand digest using openai models. The summarization workflow is organized with langgraph, giving the process explicit stages for collection, grouping, generation, and formatting, while an agentic-ai layer coordinates how items flow between those stages and retries or refines weak summaries. The output is a clean text digest that highlights what happened and why it matters to the sector. By the end, the intern understands news aggregation, prompt design for faithful summarization, and multi-step workflow orchestration, and can demonstrate a practical generative AI tool aimed at a real communication need in financial services.

Interactive Knowledge Graph Explorer for Banking Documents

Banks accumulate enormous libraries of reports, contracts, and statements, and the connections buried across those documents, such as which policies reference which entities, or how terms in one contract relate to clauses in another, are nearly impossible to see by reading files one at a time. Analysts and compliance staff need a way to explore that knowledge as a connected map rather than a pile of PDFs. The intern builds an exploration suite in python with a streamlit front end where users upload diverse banking documents. Text is chunked and embedded into a vector database, and a retrieval-augmented generation pipeline finds related passages across the corpus while generative AI produces explanations of how concepts, entities, and policies are linked. The centerpiece is an interactive map of key terms and their relationships that users can query in natural language, asking, for example, how a policy connects to a counterparty mentioned in a different report, with RAG grounding every answer in the source documents. The project is deliberately modular so a team can divide ingestion, retrieval, and interface work, and it leaves the intern with a portfolio-quality demonstration of embeddings, semantic retrieval, and grounded generation applied to a hard, realistic problem.

Modern farms generate continuous streams of readings for soil moisture, temperature, humidity, and equipment status, but the raw numbers are useless until they are reliably collected, stored, and summarized. Agritech companies solve this with streaming data platforms, and this project introduces that architecture at a scale a newcomer can build end to end. The intern writes Python producers that simulate realistic agricultural sensor streams and publish them to Kafka topics, then builds consumers that read the streams, validate and enrich the readings, and land them in HDFS for durable, distributed storage. On top of the stored data, Python analysis scripts compute aggregates such as average soil moisture per field, daily temperature ranges, and gaps that indicate sensor failures, producing summary files a farm manager could act on. The focus stays on the pipeline itself: partitioning topics sensibly, handling malformed messages, and organizing HDFS directories for easy downstream analysis. Through this big-data project the intern gains a concrete understanding of publish-subscribe streaming, distributed file storage, and pipeline design, which are foundational skills for any data engineering role.

When regulators publish new rules or amend existing ones, compliance teams at banks must quickly understand what changed, decide who is affected, and circulate clear internal alerts. Doing this by hand for every circular and amendment is slow and error-prone, which makes it a strong candidate for AI-assisted automation. The intern builds a pipeline in python where users paste or upload recent regulatory updates and compliance changes. A workflow defined in langgraph moves each document through stages for parsing, relevance assessment, summarization, and alert drafting, while an agentic-ai layer coordinates the stages and decides when a summary needs another pass. Generative AI through openai models turns dense regulatory language into short, actionable alert messages and longer explanatory summaries, and the system assembles everything into text-based alert reports ready for distribution to affected teams. The project teaches regulatory monitoring practices, faithful AI summarization of high-stakes text, and multi-step workflow automation. The intern finishes able to show a working compliance tool and to explain the safeguards needed when generative AI drafts security-sensitive communications.
