Stock Market Virtual Portfolio & Analysis Report
Every college WhatsApp group has someone claiming they doubled their money on a hot stock, and every semester a few students open demat accounts and learn expensive lessons with real savings. The gap between curiosity about the stock market and disciplined investing is enormous, and the safest bridge across it is paper trading: managing a virtual portfolio with imaginary money, real prices and honest record-keeping, so the lessons arrive before the losses do.
The intern runs a virtual portfolio of ₹1,00,000 across at least 8 NSE-listed stocks for 4 weeks. They research and score candidate companies using public information, build a tracking workbook in google-sheets that pulls live prices with the GOOGLEFINANCE function, maintain a decision journal recording the reasoning behind every buy and hold, and benchmark their performance against the NIFTY 50. The project closes with a written analysis report explaining what worked, what did not and why, plus a presentation deck built in powerpoint that walks through the portfolio's story week by week.
The intern comes away understanding sectors, diversification, returns arithmetic, benchmarking and the psychology of investment decisions, all documented in a way that stands up to scrutiny. For a commerce or economics student aiming at equity research, wealth management or any analyst role, a rigorously kept portfolio journal and a defensible performance report are far more persuasive in an interview than any certificate alone.
