Channel Partner Onboarding Kit
Rooftop solar, water purifiers, agri equipment, paints, telecom recharge - a huge share of what gets sold in Tier-2 and Tier-3 India is sold by somebody else on the brand's behalf. A company in Nashik or Coimbatore signs up local electricians, hardware shops and small contractors as channel partners, and then discovers that half of them never make a single sale. The usual reason is not that the partners were wrong; it is that onboarding was a phone call, a price list forwarded on WhatsApp, and then silence. Whoever can design the first ninety days of a partner relationship properly is fixing a revenue leak that most small companies never even name.
The intern builds the full onboarding kit for Suryabee Solar, a fictional Nashik company selling 3 kW to 10 kW rooftop solar kits through local partners across Maharashtra. They benchmark six published partner programmes, hold three short consented conversations with real hardware or electrical shop owners about what they would actually need, then produce a 14-to-18 page partner handbook in google-docs, a one-page 30-60-90 day journey map and a 12-slide induction deck in canva, a formula-driven readiness tracker in google-sheets showing each partner's onboarding completion percentage, and a notion partner portal that holds the whole kit behind one shareable link.
Completing the project teaches partner enablement, journey mapping, margin and incentive design, instructional writing for a non-expert reader, and progress tracking - the everyday work of channel and alliance teams at distribution-led companies. Because the kit is a set of usable artefacts rather than an essay, it interviews well: the intern can hand over a document and say that a brand-new partner could be productive in six weeks using only this.
